Introduction
Situated at the entrance of Brussels’s Noordwijk neighborhood, Quatuor stands as a testament to sustainable architecture and innovative design. Developed by Befimmo in collaboration with Jaspers-Eyers Architects, this remarkable office project spans 60,000 square meters across four compact structures, setting a new standard for mixed-use architecture.
Design Concept
Inspired by the desire to create a sustainable environment that seamlessly integrates with the urban landscape, Jaspers-Eyers Architects embraced playful, organic shapes for Quatuor. The buildings feature captivating curved facades, blending harmoniously with the surroundings while offering a unique architectural character.
Spatial Configuration
Quatuor’s design revolves around compact, triangular structures with rounded corners, creating captivating curved facades that draw the public into the inner courtyard. The seamless integration with the urban landscape eliminates closed spaces, fostering an open and inviting atmosphere.
Sustainable Facade
The facade of Quatuor combines solid and transparent elements to enhance energy efficiency. Vertical fins with integrated solar panels not only limit glass surfaces but also add to the building’s aesthetic appeal. Carefully selected lighting further highlights these features, transforming the building’s appearance at night.
Environmental Commitment
Quatuor holds the prestigious BREEAM “Outstanding” label, underscoring its commitment to sustainability. The choice of aluminum exterior joinery aligns perfectly with this ethos, offering high insulation, ecological benefits, and recyclability.
Unity in Diversity
Despite its size, Quatuor maintains a sense of airiness and unity in diversity. The four structures blend seamlessly with the urban landscape, providing transparency and public space. This meaningful relationship with the environment defines Quatuor as a beacon of sustainable architecture.
Conclusion
Quatuor is more than just an office project; it’s a symbol of sustainable urban development and forward-thinking design. With its striking aesthetics, energy-efficient features, and meticulous attention to detail, Quatuor adds a remarkable touch to Brussels’s urban fabric, setting a new standard for mixed-use architecture in the heart of the city.
